Callie

Callie’s personality

admin

I’ve learned some things about this girl, things that potential adopters should know.

I take trips away every few months ranging from a long weekend to seven or eight days. A coworker and her kids come over when I’m gone to feed, water and poop-scoop. In the past, with my other fosters, I’ve seen no changes when I’ve come home. The vibe I often get is, “Oh, you’re back. Feed me.” But after a recent trip away, with Callie it was different. My friend reported that she saw Callie only a couple of times, briefly, over those five days.

Here’s my assessment.

In an earlier post I explained that Callie and a couple of other kitties had been all but abandoned after their owner passed away. Although she opened up and relaxed with me very quickly once I took her in, I believe that when I took off a few weeks later, she felt abandoned again.

I believe this because of how quickly she reattached to me when I returned home. Within just a few minutes she was nuzzling my ankles and meow-meow-meowing. Since then, she follows me from room to room. She sleeps at the foot of the bed. If I’m in my TV chair in the living room she circles several times, positioning her head beneath my scratchy-scratchy hands before spreading out on the floor. She will now walk onto my lap on her own, whereas I used to have to lift her up.

This behavior leads me to think several things: She’d be great with a single person who’s home a lot. Having lived with other cats, she’d be fine with them again. She’s so laid-back, and she’s playful, so I really believe she’d be OK around dogs or kids.

Miscellaneous: She’s a good sport about having her claws clipped. She’s VERY vocal — meowmeow when I say hi, meowmeow when I get up to go to the kitchen, meowmeow when I turn off the lights in the living room to go to bed, meowmeow when it’s time for food.

Such a nice girl!

Adoption success!

Ziggy and Batman went to their forever home this afternoon. A very nice lady whose two senior cats—mother and daughter—died within barely a week from each other a couple of months ago was ready for some new companionship. Almost as soon as they reached the lady’s house, Ziggy and Batman were playing, which tells me […]

Meet Ziggy and Batman!

These two! They’ve been with me, their foster dad, for about a month. The Fat Kitty City folks tell me they were removed from a really terrible hoarding situation, one so bad they wouldn’t show me any pictures of the place. Best guess is that as of now (September 8th) they’re 10-11 weeks old, It’s […]
